Hali knows where your stars land.

Wanderlines use astrology to show where in the world each of your planets was rising, setting or overhead the minute you were born. Find the cities on your Venus line, your Jupiter line and the rest, and see what each line means.

How sure is your time?
Wanderlines need your exact birth time. Earth turns one degree every four minutes, so every four minutes off moves all your lines about 111 km. Your birth certificate or hospital record is the best source. Don't know it? and we'll draw your map for noon, clearly marked.

Every colour is one of your planets. Straight lines mark where it stood overhead or underfoot the minute you were born, the curves trace where it was rising or setting, and the nearer a place sits to a line, the louder that planet hums for you there. No style of line is better than another. Each one speaks to a different part of life, so follow the one that matches what you want.

Where should you go?

Choose what you're looking for and Hali ranks the cities sitting closest to the lines astrologers tie to it. Tap a city to read every line around it.

Read from your Venus lines, above all where Venus was setting, plus your Jupiter and Moon setting lines. Places for romance, partnership and feeling adored.

Where in the world

None of the cities on our list sit near these lines in your chart. Tap the map to explore the places in between.

Cities are ranked by how close they sit to each line, counting lines within 800 km. A reading to play with, never an instruction.

Places that mattered to you

Add the places where life happened, where you fell in love, found your work or felt most like yourself, and see which of your lines run through them and where your planets land there. When two or more share a line or a house, that's your thread.

Add two or more places to look for the thread between them.

Distances are measured east or west along the latitude of the place. Astrologers usually read a line as strongest within a few hundred kilometres.

Your chart in Lisbon

If you'd been born here at the same minute, your Rising sign would be Leo and your Midheaven Aries. Your planets stay in the same signs, but they move into different houses, the areas of life they colour.

This is a relocated chart, the birth moment kept and the place moved. Astrologers read planets in the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses as the strongest, so those come first.

Why your birth time matters so much here

Earth turns one degree every four minutes. So if your birth time is four minutes off, every line on your map moves by a full degree, about 111 km at the equator. A time rounded to the nearest half hour can shift your lines by hundreds of kilometres and put your Venus line in the wrong city. Try it.

Why we call them Wanderlines

The ancient Greeks called the planets planētai, the wanderers, because they drift across the sky while the stars stay fixed. Every line on this map is drawn by one of your wanderers, so we called them Wanderlines. The word wanderlust helped too.

The technique is usually called astrocartography, or locational astrology. It maps your birth chart onto the globe. Hali calculates every line from the exact sky of your birth, to the arcminute, and shows its work. We read the lines as inspiration for where to travel, live or visit, not as instructions.

Questions people ask about their lines

What is astrocartography?

It's your birth chart laid across the whole globe. At the minute you were born, each planet was rising somewhere on Earth, setting somewhere else, standing overhead along one line of longitude and sitting underfoot along another. Trace all of those places and you get the lines on your map. The astrologer Jim Lewis made the method famous in the 1970s, though astrologers had been sketching versions of it since at least 1960.

Where should I live?

Start with what you want more of. Use Where should you go? just under the map to rank cities for love, career, home, luck, creativity or a fresh start, then tap a city to see every line near it. Many people look for a Venus or Jupiter line close by and keep a little distance from the lines that feel heavy for them.

Is it better to live on a straight line or a curved one?

Neither is better. Straight lines mark where a planet was overhead or underfoot, curves where it was rising or setting, and each speaks to a different part of life. Overhead lines are read for career and reputation, underfoot lines for home and family, rising lines for how you feel and come across, and setting lines for love and partnership. Choose the planet you want more of, then the kind of line that fits what you want it for.

Why is only one city labelled on the map?

The ringed city is the place you're reading, your birthplace to start with. The numbered cities are your top places for whatever you chose under Where should you go? the cities with a ring are the ones you add under Places that mattered to you, and the small dots are other cities you can tap.

Do my lines change as my life changes?

Your lines never move. They're fixed by the minute you were born, so the map you draw today is the map you'll have at eighty. What changes is what you need from it. A Venus or Mars line might call to you at twenty five, a Jupiter overhead line when you're building a career, and a Moon underfoot line when you want to settle. Pick a different wish under Where should you go? as your life moves on, and the best places move with it. Astrologers also look at where the planets are moving now to choose the timing of a move.

Do I really need my exact birth time?

Yes, more than for almost anything else in astrology. Earth turns one degree every four minutes, so a time that's a little off slides every line east or west, sometimes into a different city. Your birth certificate or hospital record is the best source. Without a time we'll still draw you a map for noon, as a daydream.

How close to a line do I need to be?

Astrologers usually read a line as strongest within a few hundred kilometres, softening the further away you go. Some read wider. Hali shows the real distance from any place to every line near it, so you can see how close you are and decide for yourself.

Is a Saturn or Pluto line a bad sign?

Every line has its own weather. A Saturn line is often read as a place to build something slowly and well, and a Pluto line as a place that changes you. Some people seek those out on purpose. Gentler lines like Venus and Jupiter tend to feel easier, though easy isn't always what you need.

Do I have to move to feel my lines?

No. Plenty of people read their lines for a holiday, a semester abroad or a long weekend. Some astrologers also read the lines running through places you only work with or dream about from afar.

Why do some lines curve?

Overhead and underfoot lines run straight from pole to pole. Rising and setting lines curve because the horizon tilts as you travel north or south, so near the poles they sweep sharply across the map.
