What's my pet's zodiac sign?
The sky had opinions about your pet long before the sofa did
Your pet's zodiac sign is the sign the Sun was passing through on the day they were born, worked out from their birthday exactly as yours is. If you do not know the birthday, use their gotcha day, the day they came home, which gives a real and lovely chart of its own. Read it as playful reflection, because every animal is gloriously an individual.
Find my pet's signHow do I find my pet's zodiac sign?
You find your pet's zodiac sign from their birthday, the same way you would find your own. The sign is set by where the Sun sat on that date, and each sign covers roughly a month of the year. Put the date into the calculator below and Hali gives you the Sun sign straight away, along with the Moon sign whenever the day allows it.
The Sun changes sign somewhere around the twentieth to the twenty third of each month, so a birthday on one of those days can sit right on the line between two signs. On those days the exact time of birth decides, and Hali will tell you when that applies. If your puppy or kitten came with paperwork from the litter, it is worth a look before you guess, because the hour is sometimes written down.

What if I don't know my pet's birthday?
If you do not know your pet's birthday, use their gotcha day, the day they came home with you. Many rescue animals arrive with a guessed age and no date at all, and the gotcha day is the one you actually remember, with the nervous car ride, the first careful sniff of the kitchen and the first night spent on entirely the wrong side of the bed.
A gotcha day chart describes the life you started together, which is arguably the part you know best. It is a real chart with its own Sun and Moon, and plenty of owners prefer it even when a birth date exists, because it marks the moment the animal became family. Some people keep both and celebrate twice, which no dog or cat in history has ever objected to.
Do pets really have zodiac signs?
Pets have zodiac signs in the same sense people do, because every animal was born under a sky that can be mapped. A sign offers a playful way of noticing who your pet already is, a language for the cat who sulks with great dignity or the dog who greets the postman like a long lost brother. It does not explain behaviour, and it predicts nothing.
Every animal is an individual, and no sign belongs to any breed. Two Taurus dogs from the same litter can be as different as two siblings, one guarding their bed with their life and the other offering it to any visitor who asks nicely. If anything about health or behaviour worries you, your vet knows best. The stars are for the fun part, the nodding, the laughing and the sending of this page to your sister.
What are the pet zodiac signs by date?
The pet zodiac signs by date are the same twelve signs and the same date ranges that apply to people, starting with Aries around the March equinox and ending with Pisces just before it comes round again. The exact changeover days shift slightly from year to year, so the list below shows this year's dates, each linked to its own page of dogs, cats and other creatures born under that sign.
Each sign also belongs to an element. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) tend to be the bouncers and the performers, earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) the creatures of habit and soft blankets, air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) the chatterers and window watchers, and water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) the cuddlers who notice every mood in the house before anyone else does.

What is my pet's Moon sign?
Your pet's Moon sign is the sign the Moon was in when they were born, and it describes the softer side of them, how they find comfort and what makes them feel safe. Because the Moon changes sign about every two and a half days, pets born a few days apart can share a Sun sign and still have quite different Moons, and quite different ideas about bedtime.
The Moon sign tends to show up in routines. A Cancer Moon cat may want the same blanket in the same corner every evening, while a Sagittarius Moon dog may be happiest when the walk takes a turn nobody planned. If the birth time is unknown and the Moon changed sign that day, Hali says so plainly instead of guessing, so you can read both and see which one sounds like your animal.
How does my zodiac sign match my pet's?
Your sign meets your pet's sign mostly through the elements, and every combination has its own kind of love. A fire owner with a water cat learns patience with a creature who prefers to approach on their own terms. An earth owner with an air dog gets far more conversation than they ever planned for, mostly about the neighbour's bins and the mysterious noise behind the fridge.
No pairing is a bad match, and nobody should choose or rehome an animal because of a sign. Matching elements tend to understand each other without trying, and different elements tend to teach each other something new. Pick your element and your pet's to read how the two of you fit together, muddy paws, early breakfasts, three in the morning zoomies and all.
How can I celebrate my pet's zodiac sign?
You can celebrate your pet's sign with whatever that sign already loves, kept simple and safe. A fire sign dog might get a walk somewhere entirely new, a slow sniff route full of smells they have never met. An earth sign cat might prefer a long nap together in the sunniest spot in the house, with nobody allowed to get up for anything.
Air signs tend to enjoy a new toy and a game that keeps changing, and water signs love a cardboard box, an extra brush and your undivided attention. Their favourite treat suits every sign. Leave out decorations they could chew and anything they would have to wear, then take the photo while they are happy, because a grumpy birthday portrait helps nobody.

Questions people ask about pet astrology
What is my dog's zodiac sign?
Your dog's zodiac sign is the sign the Sun was in on their birthday. Enter the date in the calculator and Hali shows the sign, plus the Moon sign when the day allows. If the birthday is unknown, their gotcha day works beautifully.
Do cats have zodiac signs?
Every cat has a Sun sign and a Moon sign, worked out from the day they were born exactly as a person's would be. Read the result as a fond, playful mirror of the cat you already know, the one sitting on the exact piece of paper you need.
Can I use my rescue pet's gotcha day instead of a birthday?
Yes, and many owners do. The gotcha day is the day your animal came home, and its chart describes the life you share. It is a real chart in its own right, never a second best.
What zodiac sign is a dog born in August?
A dog born in August is a Leo if the birthday falls before the changeover around the twenty second or twenty third, and a Virgo after it. On the changeover day itself the exact time decides. Hali will tell you which way it falls.
Can my pet's sign explain their behaviour?
No sign can explain or predict an animal's behaviour or health. Astrology here is a playful way of noticing the personality your pet already has. If something worries you, your vet knows best.
Which zodiac sign makes the best pet?
None of them outranks the others. Every sign makes a wonderful companion in its own way, and every animal is an individual. Choose a pet for who they are, then enjoy finding out what the sky says about them.
