Scorpio dogs and cats

Scorpio dogs

Other dogs watch a ball. A Scorpio dog watches the front door. They know which car belongs to you from the end of the road and are waiting in the hall before the engine stops. With strangers they reserve judgement, sitting a little apart and studying everyone with an expression you might describe as a background check. Once someone passes, though, the loyalty is total.

Their favourite chew gets buried in the garden, dug up a week later and buried again somewhere more secret, while you watch from the kitchen pretending not to notice. They play hide and seek with real commitment, and a long sniff at one interesting gatepost is worth more to them than any amount of brisk marching. At bedtime they lie with their back against the bedroom door, as if guarding treasure.

Scorpio cats

The top of the wardrobe is a Scorpio cat's command post. They see you come in, they see you look for them, and they let you search for a while before revealing themselves with one slow blink. Affection is given on their terms and is worth the wait, because when a Scorpio cat finally stretches out along your arm and purrs, it feels like being let into a secret society.

Closed doors are a personal insult. The Scorpio cat must know what is happening in every room, especially the one you are trying to have a private phone call in. They hunt shadows across the hallway with total seriousness and remember exactly which visitor once sat in their chair. Late at night you may wake to find them sitting on the end of the bed, simply watching, which is their way of saying you are theirs.

Scorpio rabbits, birds and small wonders

Scorpio rabbits dig tunnels into the blanket with great purpose and guard the result. A Scorpio guinea pig may take weeks to trust you, then squeak only for your footsteps. Their parrot picks one favourite human and saves the best whistle for them alone. In the yard, the Scorpio horse watches from the far side, choosing carefully whose pocket to nuzzle.

Somehow a certain animal is always in the room you are in, though you never see them arrive. That is the Scorpion. They follow one person everywhere and give that person a long, unblinking look that says they heard every word of that phone call. Visitors get a slow inspection before they are allowed to sit down.
