Constellation
Pisces
Pisces is the zodiac constellation of two fish tied together by their tails, swimming in opposite directions. It holds the March equinox point today, and the Sun passes in front of it from about 11 March to 18 April.
The myth
Pisces is two fish, roped together at the tails. The Greeks said the goddess Aphrodite and her son Eros turned themselves into fish and tied a cord between them so they could not be separated while fleeing the monster Typhon. The knot in the cord is marked by a star whose name, Alrescha, is Arabic for the cord.
How to find it
Pisces is faint and spread wide. Look below the great square of Pegasus for a large, dim V of stars. One fish is marked by a small ring of stars called the Circlet, tucked just under the square. Autumn evenings are the best time from the northern hemisphere.
When the Sun is there
Hali’s calculations with the official star boundaries put the Sun in front of Pisces from about 11 March to 18 April in 2026, an average of 37.5 days a year. The sign Pisces ran from 18 February to 20 March in 2026, so a Pisces Sun was mostly in front of Aquarius, with only 8.5 of its 30 days among the fish by Hali’s figures. People born under the sign Aries had the Sun in front of Pisces for 29 of their sign’s 30.5 days.
Where the year begins
The March equinox, the point where the tropical zodiac starts, now sits among the faint stars of Pisces. It has been there for around two thousand years, and it creeps west along the ecliptic by about a degree every 71 years, by Hali’s measured precession rate. That slow slide is what astrologers mean by the Age of Pisces, and the long wait for the equinox to reach Aquarius is the Age of Aquarius everyone sings about.
Stars you can find in your chart
Pisces has no bright stars, so astrologers who use fixed stars mostly look to its neighbours. The stars of the Great Square of Pegasus, just above the fish, now sit in the sign Pisces. By Hali’s 2026 star positions Markab is at 23 degrees of Pisces and Scheat at 29 degrees, the last degree of the zodiac, which the Sun reaches around 20 March, just before the equinox.
Sign and constellation

Questions
Is the spring equinox really in Pisces?
Yes. At the March equinox of 2026, on 20 March, Hali's calculations have the Sun more than a week into its passage across the stars of Pisces, with almost a month still to go. The sign Aries still begins at the equinox, because the tropical zodiac follows the seasons.
