The first decan of Scorpio

What the first decan of Scorpio is like

Pluto rules this decan as it rules the sign, with old Mars still standing behind it. Intense, compelling and determined, you commit with your whole being.

Pluto rules both Scorpio and this decan.

The Scorpio underneath

Scorpio season arrives as autumn deepens and the old festivals of the dead come round again, when the veil feels thin. You are not afraid of what lies beneath. You see straight through small talk, you love with everything or not at all, and you have a rare gift for rising, changed, out of whatever tried to break you.

How decans work

Each sign is thirty degrees of the zodiac, split into three decans of ten degrees, so the Sun spends about ten days in each. Hali uses the modern decan rulers, where each decan borrows the ruler of a sign of the same element. The older Chaldean system of Hellenistic astrology hands the decans to the seven classical planets in a fixed order instead, so some books name a different ruler.
