Hali is built on the idea that you deserve to know exactly how your reading was made. Here is the full picture.
The math
Your birth chart starts with real planetary positions. Hali uses the Swiss Ephemeris, which is derived from NASA JPL's Development Ephemeris. Given your birth date, time and geographic coordinates, we calculate the ecliptic longitude of the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. We also compute the Ascendant, Midheaven and house cusps.
House calculations use the Placidus system by default, which is the most widely used house system in Western astrology. Positions are accurate to the arcminute, and we apply the same precision that professional astrology software uses.
Aspects are calculated using standard orbs. We identify conjunctions, oppositions, trines, squares, sextiles and quincunxes. Each aspect includes its exact orb so you can see how tight or wide it is.
The words
The Hali engine generates readings from a structured rule set. Each rule maps a specific chart condition (a planet in a sign, a planet in a house, an aspect between two planets) to a piece of text. The engine checks your chart against every rule and assembles the ones that apply.
No rule fires without a matching placement. If your chart does not contain a particular aspect, you will not see text about it. The engine does not fill gaps with generic content. If a section would be empty, it stays empty or it is not shown.
Every paragraph in your reading includes a reference to the placement it describes. You can always trace a sentence back to the planet, sign, house or aspect it is based on.
The people
Automated text does not mean unreviewed text. Every rule in the Hali engine is written by people who study astrology and reviewed against real charts. The team checks that interpretations are grounded in traditional and modern astrological sources, that the tone is honest without being harsh, and that no reading makes promises it cannot support.
We do not predict health outcomes, financial windfalls, death, or relationship timelines. We do not use fear-based language. We do not assign percentage-based compatibility scores. These are deliberate editorial choices, not technical limitations.
Your data
We ask for your birth date, time and place because we need them to calculate your chart. That is the only reason.
Hali does not sell your data to third parties. We do not run behavioral advertising. We use Plausible for analytics, which is cookieless and privacy-friendly. It collects aggregate page-view counts and nothing that identifies you personally.
Your birth data is stored so that you can return to your chart. You can delete your data at any time from your account settings. When you delete it, it is gone.
